Dear Fellow Alconburians:
The fanfare of the 6th Alconbury Reunion has died down, and it’s time to start planning the next one. 2010 will mark 25 years since the first Alconbury Reunion in 1985, and we continue to find new alumni with each passing event.
It appears that Vail, Colorado has the most votes for the next reunion, with 39 people choosing this locale compared to the following:
Denver 8
Wichita 2
Las Vegas 7
Dollywood 3
Cleveland 4
Chicago 8
Obviously, a grand total vote of 71 is a far cry from the total amount of 216 alumni on our list, but the majority has spoken – so far. Having said that, I feel that I must warn everyone that Vail, Colorado is extremely expensive to fly into, and that could greatly affect our numbers.
The reason I know this is that my sister is getting married near Vail this September, and when booking my flight, it would currently cost me $869 to fly into Vail, compared to $450 to fly into Denver – a more than $400 difference. In addition, although her fiancé had stated at the last reunion that he could get us deals on accommodations in Vail, these deals, while great compared to what they cost during ski season, seem to be quite a bit more than what we’d pay for a standard hotel.
My fear is that, because our group runs the economic spectrum, we could wind up with a very small number of attendees at the 2010 reunion, should prices to fly into Vail and stay there continue to be expensive. That’s not a given, but just how prices seem to be now.
Denver, Vegas and Chicago, the three runner-ups, on the other hand, are major airline hubs. Flights are less expensive, hotels are more affordable, and there are lots to do in these area. My personal recommendation is that we have the reunion in one of these three places, so that as many alumni can attend the 2010 reunion as possible.
However, this is a majority call, so I need to have feedback from everyone ASAP on whether we should have the next reunion in Denver, Vegas, Chicago or Vail. You can email me your personal preferences at alconbury_reunion@yahoo.com, or vote on the poll page of the web site at www.alconburyreunion.com.
In closing, I’d like to thank Jamie Hudson and Mike and Lisa Stevens for contributing to the monthly fee of the web site. Check back at the web site from time to time as photos get added, and information on the next reunion is updated. And if you haven’t posted your photos from the last reunion or from our time at Alconbury – well, what are you waiting for?
Again, please let me hear from you about Vail versus Denver, Vegas or Chicago within the next few weeks so that we can get the ball rolling on the 7th Alconbury Reunion in 2010!
Until next time,
Kim Morgan
